Why is it so expensive? This style of photography is truly an investment because your grandchildren will one day be able to look at photos of you with their parents and see what life was like for them. They will know you through photographs, even if you are not with them anymore. With that being said, session fees include: my time traveling to the session, time during the session, time editing and creating photo albums, and my creative talent. These fees also go toward things that I need in order to do what I do: a camera, car, computer, editing software, a website, and insurance (just a few of many expenses).

I feel awkward in front of the camera; will the photos turn out awkward, sense they are not posed?"No, you may feel a little uncomfortable at first, but I am very easy going and that may rub off on you after a little while. If things are feeling tense we can always take breaks away from the camera to reconnect with each other. You will definitely see your personality shine through and I will do my best to capture your good side ;).

What do I wear?Nothing or everything (just kidding!). But seriously, wear what you wear on a daily basis. If we are doing a home session and you feel uncomfortable in PJ's all day, then put on your usual casual clothes. But I would not recommend wearing anything fancy, you may look a little weird hanging around the house with heels on!

Documentary Family Photography session sounds like it will take a really long time, what would be our time commitment? "Some people think that Documentary Family Photography will take months or years to complete a project. But this is not the case, it all depends on the story we are telling. We could tell a short story of how your family cooks and then eats dinner together, or a longer story of your child growing through the years. Both are very valuable and short stories strung together end up making a larger one.

What are the best products to purchase after a session?I highly, highly recommend a photo book that pieces together the entire story of your session. Other great options are a photo collage made up of small and large prints to hang on your wall, or a box of prints you can rummage through with your kid’s years from now.

We are extremely busy and don't have time for a session, are you flexible with your schedule?"I am very flexible with scheduling, but also ask you to honor our agreed upon time so I can coordinate with my own family. One of the best parts about Documentary Family Photography is that you don't actually have to set aside time from your daily life because...drum roll please...we will be capturing your daily life events! We can plan a session around a lazy day or a busy one, it is completely up to you!

My kids won't sit still, how should I prepare them for the session?"Please do not try to "tame" your kids. I promise as a mother of two, nothing will surprise me. I would recommend telling your kids ahead of time that I am coming so they aren't surprised, but there is no need for their best behavior. This tends to make them feel uneasy with me being there, like they have to "act" instead of just being themselves.

What is Documentary Family Photography? My personal definition of documentary family photography is telling the story of a family with no direction or posing. This lets the family's real life and true love shine through photographs that are honest and powerful. In my opinion, most powerful photographs are not planned or posed, they are the photos that make you feel and take you back to a time almost forgotten.

Why would I get a Documentary Family Photography session done? You should choose to go for this type of session if you have a strong desire to reconnect with your past and find tremendous value in knowing where you came from. If this is you, then you understand the importance of preserving the present moment for your children and grandchildren to look back on.

What would we do?Nothing! Or Everything! We could spend a quiet day hanging out at the house or an exciting day at the little league baseball fields. There is no need to think of extraordinary things to do that your family really never does. Trust me, as an outsider looking in, your family is beautiful and perfect because it is yours!
